What is the best way to upgrade and move server, given PHP version contraints?

I’m running phpList 3.3.8 on a server with PHP 7.3 (PHP 8 is not available) and am planning to move to phpList 3.6.15 or 3.6.16 on new server with PHP 8.

What’s the best way to do this, given the different PHP versions?

For example, is there a version of phpList that would work on PHP 7 and PHP 8?

That way, I could upgrade to that version on my old server, copy everything to the new server, and upgrade to the latest version on the new server.

(I have some room for manoeuvre in that I could upgrade from 7.3 to 7.4 on the old server.)
