Redundant code not deleted?

Having just upgraded one of my sites to 3.6.7 I saw the code was now 208MB. I backed up the database, deleted the installation, then installed a clean version. The code size went down to 120MB. I am using the Softaculous installer with cPanel.

I am wondering if this is because redundant code is not deleted as it is replaced by later versions. Any ideas?

@Cornwell Even 120MB looks high. simply expanding the phplist zip file comes to 88MB. Possibly your original size included an image directory or attachment directory.
