Is the name "phpList" confusing, and should we consider giving it a new name?

phpList has been around for more than 20 years now and we are pleased it is still going strong. But during informal discussions, I have noticed that people often get confused when they hear the word “phpList”. Most of them assume that it is something solely related to PHP. Not to mention that a lot of people call phpList simply PHP…

I’ve never had a problem with the name, found it confusing, or anything on those lines. Honestly, it’s “quite straight to the point” if you asked me.

BUT… my clients, who have no idea what PHP is, refer to PHPlist as “PHP” for short. it took me a while to understand what they actually meant, but now I get it.

because of that, I’d say it might not be unique enough of a name to enable organic “word of mouth”. if they were to search for php, they’d never find phplist.
