After either updating, or doing a clean install of the Common Plugin the 500 error page comes up.
@nathanlang A mistake on my part, but should be fixed now.
If you delete admin/plugins/CommonPlugin.php then you should be able to login and install the plugin on the Manage Plugins page using https://github.com/bramley/phplist-plugin-common/archive/master.zip
