Missing images & other formatting issues when using "Send a webpage" feature

Started using the “Send a webpage” feature but although the images are showing up when viewed on a Windows10 / Outlook, they’re not showing up when I view them on a Mac / Thunderbird.

To show this visually:

  1. The actual webpage
  2. How the email looks when it arrives in the Thunderbird in box
  3. How it looks when I have downloaded the images.

As can be seen from the 3 linked images, it seems that when I download the images in the email it also seems to download the styling (presumaby that’s pulled in from the css style sheet) however there’s no images! Do you know why this is happening & how i can resolve the issue?

I found a post on the phplist forum which suggested I add this line to the config.php

define(“HTMLEMAIL_ENCODING”,“8bit”);

But that doesn’t seem to make any difference. Can anyone help me resolve this issue?

Many thanks

Phil

Where are the images stored? On your computer, on the internet, external to your computer?

Sorry for the slow reply, I seemed to miss your post on Friday!

In answer to your question: images are stored on the same website as the website page (wordpress media library).

It’s wierd . . . when i look at the source code for the email received on Mac / Thunderbird (version 78.12.0) it seems to have totally removed the image:

 The mysterious London-based outfit release the 1st single from their
upcoming EP of the same name.

Release Date 18th August

But when i look at the source code on the same email received by Wndows10 / Outook I can see the code for the image (& all the different versions)

The mysterious London-based outfit release the 1st single from their upcoming EP of the same name.</p>

Is there anything I can do to instruct Thunderbird not to strip the code out?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Phil

@phillegg The email that you are viewing in Thunderbird looks to be a plain text version, not html. Possibly that subscriber has selected to receive plain text, or Thunderbird is showing you the plain text version instead of the html version.

Ahh OK! Searched the scource code further down the page and found a part of the code that does include the image. However, the src element has “3D” just after the equal sign in it which I’ve never seen before - see below.

src=3D"https://www.future=
    proofpromotions.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Nrvs_ILikeYou_VideoStill-14_1439x1079.jpg"

I Googled it & think it’s “Quoted Printable” but believe that’s just how Thunderbird is displaying the scource & wouldn’t be anything to do with the actual source code itself.

Still not sure why the images display on Windows / Outlook but not on Mac / Thunderbird?

Any ideas @duncanc? - btw, I’m just sending a test email to myself on 2 computers (Windows10 & Mac) but presume that because it’s a test email, that wouldn’t be a reason for the images not to show on Mac / Thunderbird?

Best

Phil
